Overview
TIMBUK2 has built custom messenger bags in San Francisco for decades. Online, they wanted customers to design their own bag — every panel, color and detail — and buy it without leaving their Shopify store.
The challenge
The customizer had to feel instant, handle a huge matrix of colors and options, and hand off a valid, correctly priced product to Shopify’s cart and checkout every time.
What I built
- A React application embedded in the Shopify theme that renders the customer’s bag as they design it
- Real-time pricing and option logic kept in sync with Shopify product data
- A clean hand-off from the builder into the standard Shopify cart and checkout
- An option structure the TIMBUK2 team can extend for new products and colorways
The result
Customers can personalize a bag down to the panel and check out in one flow — a signature experience that keeps people on the site longer and sets the brand apart.
